The goal
You and your spouse each maintain independent credit profiles, each apply for cards that earn SUBs you'll never get again, and pool the points into shared travel redemptions.
The rules of engagement
- Never add your spouse as an AU on a card you want them to later open on their own (triggers once-per-lifetime at Amex).
- Alternate who applies for what. If you just hit 5/24, they're probably still under.
- Divide the household spend. Whoever has an active SUB gets all the household spend on their card.
- Pool points into one transfer partner program per family.
Who earns what
- Player 1 opens Chase Sapphire Preferred (earns 60k UR).
- Player 2 opens Chase Sapphire Reserve 6 months later (earns 60k UR).
- Together: 120k UR pooled into Hyatt for 4-5 free nights.
The coordination
Run a shared spreadsheet (or a shared CardLeverage account when multi-user lands) showing each person's 5/24, Amex velocity, and open SUBs.
