What a sweet spot is

An award redemption where the points value is 2-4x the typical TPG baseline. These are where the real value of transferable points lives.

The greatest hits

  • Hyatt Category 1-4 (Chase UR transfer partner). 3,500-15,000 points per night for hotels that cash-price $150-$400. Up to 11 cpp realized value.
  • Flying Blue (Air France/KLM) promo awards (Amex MR, Citi, Capital One partner). Monthly promos knocking 25-50% off business class to Europe. As low as 40k MR one-way.
  • Virgin Atlantic booking ANA first class (Amex MR, Chase UR partner). Tokyo-NYC first on ANA for 110k miles one-way — the cash price is $15,000+.
  • Turkish Miles&Smiles domestic US United (Citi, Capital One partner). 7,500 miles one-way for any domestic United flight in economy. Paid ticket could be $600.
  • Avios Aer Lingus NYC→Dublin business (Chase, Amex, Citi, Cap One partner). 50,000 Avios one-way when the cash price is $4,000+.

How to find them

seats.aero and point.me for award search. point.me is $79/year and worth it for multi-partner searches. Always check published award charts where they still exist (Aeroplan, Alaska, Avianca LifeMiles).
